Tyler Nye’s Local Media Boston is acquiring WMEX and its translator 101.1 W266DQ Weymouth MA from Tony LaGreca and Larry Justice’s L&J Radio for $1, with the buyer assuming all associated debt. LaGreca will hold a 45% minority stake in the new entity as a silent partner.
An immediate local marketing agreement has begun, and WMEX has moved from a 60s/70s Oldies playlist to a Classic Hits focus featuring 70s and 80s tracks. The most notable change is the exit of former co-owner Justice from his midday air slot. Justice addressed the situation publicly, noting he is “experiencing some professional challenges, we hope will be cleared up soon and back on the air.” Justice, now 86 years old, rose to prominence in Boston broadcasting during the 1960s with WMEX and later hosted afternoons at 1030 WBZ in the 1970s before expanding into station ownership and real estate.
